I was wondering if someone might be able to give me the name of a school in Abingdon that was in the 1901 census at Volume 1131 Folio 137 page number 30 I believe. My great great aunt was a music teacher and her sister died the year before and I would like to know the name of the school if possible. I think it would have been a Catholic School also if anyone would know where one of the children would have been buried if she died at school, her father was in Thailand. Many thanks for your help in advance. Kerrie

Hi Kerrie,
The address (shown on page 29) is "Convent of Mercy." I don't see any name given for the school.
Sorry I can't help with the burial question.
Regards,
Peggy

Kelly's Directory, 1899, lists for Abingdon "St Edmund's Catholic (school), Oxford Road, for 150, average attendance 131; teachers; the Sisters of Mercy"

You've had the other bit answered - as to burial, possibly at St.Edmunds RC Church in Radley Raod, Abingdon.

According to the Catholic Directory now known as Our Lady and St Edmund of Abingdon,
