Tekel family lived Horsley Gloucestershire 1716. Migrated to South Australia 1840 changed spelling to Teakle. How can I get further back?

I have the Phillimores Marriage Index for Horsley and it contains the following TEKELs for the period you are interested in:

13 Feb 1723 John Tekel & Mary English
2 June 1719 Cornelius Clift & Mary Tekle
25 Jan 1718 Moses Fortune & Margaret Tekle
18 Oct 1702 Joseph Earle & Mary Teakle
10 July 1698 Nathaniel Teacle & An Alderedge (20th July in BT)
19 Oct 1691 Thomas Brodley & An Tecckle
29 Nov 1666 William Tranter & Elizabeth Tekel
18 Feb 1663 John Teackel & Hester Amos

I also have a copy of Biglands Memorial Inscriptions and there are mentions of Teakle in Horsley as follows:

On Flat Stones in the Churchyard

Also of WILLIAM TEAKLE and ELIZABETH his wife. He died Oct 13, aetatis 80 and she Nov 25, 1761, aetatis 8..

In Memory of GEORGE, son of STEPHEN and HANNAH TEAKLE, who departed this life May the 29 1767, aged 18. Also of HANNAH, wife of STEPHEN TEAKLE, who died Feb 3 1781, aged 64.

If you visit Hugh Wallis's online rootsweb site http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis/ and follow the links to Horsley, there are some early Teakle baptisms on that. Otherwise your best bet would be to order the parish register film of Horsley from your local LDS Family History Centre (film no 91528) which contains records from 1587 to 1837. There is also the A2A site (www.a2a.org.uk) which might be worth searching for various spellings of Teakle. Hope some of this helps and good luck.

Janet.
