I have been searching the name Haffie and can not really find much. I have a family bible with names and no other info. Since I am Canadian I have no idea if the people are from Scotland or England. Some names I have are Mary (b 1843),Mary Ann (b 1868) Thomas (1870) Arlecdon. Other place names are Kirklonan, Hilton and Frizington. Any help would be appreciated.

Arlecdon and Frizington are two small villages in Cumbria, about a mile apart on the edge of the Lake District, about 5 miles inland from Whitehaven on the coast.
I can't find Kirklonan, could it be Kirkland? Also near Frizington.
Hilton is also in Cumbria, just off the A66 from Penrith, near Appleby.

Good one birdlip :)
So now that Cumbria is the area, it would be worthwhile checking the BMDs (e.g FreeBMD) for the births mentioned dudenjill.

Haffie does seem to be an unusual name. There are only 31 Haffie's on freebmd ALTOGETHER, i.e including all types of certificates from 1837- 1920's.
Mind you when you look at Haffey, Huffey, Haughey etc, there are lots more! As with any surname of course, you have to have an open mind as far as spelling goes, and with any surname starting with H, try it without...Affey, Aphee etc. Actually I suspect your Haffie name originally had a Mc attached, but that may be several generations back.
There are also very few Haffie and variant names on IGI, and most of them are in Ireland and Scotland. The ones from Westmorland and Cumberland may be significant though;
Ann Haffie christened 28 Jun 1863 Morland, Westmorland, parents Henry Haffie and Jane. This could be another sister of Thomas's, Morland is SW of Appleby.
Then I found this, which looks like the marriage of Ann's parents;
Henry HOFFIE m Jane Miller 16 Jun 1860 St Lawrence Appleby in Westmorland
Finally this one caught my eye because its one of your villages, I suspect the father is probably your Thomas b 1870;
Sarah Frances Haffie christened 05 Jun 1893 St Paul Frizington, Cumberland, parents Thomas Haffie and Mary Ann

On freebmd, this looks like the marriage of Sarah Frances' parents;
HAFFIE Thomas Whitehaven 10b 1007
(and on the same page Mary Ann CORKHILL)
Unfortunately this looks like your Thomas too;
HAFFIE Thomas age 30 Whitehaven 10b 418

Henry HAFFIE 26 AgLab, Temple Sowerby
Mary 26 Hilton
Thomas 1 Cumb Arlecdon
Marriages Dec 1865
HAFFIE Henry Mack Whitehaven 10b 961
RUDD Mary Whitehaven 10b 961
The Isabella who was married to James STEPHENSON was nee RUDD.
Deaths Dec 1876
HAFFIE Mary 31 Whitehaven 10b 329

Would possibly be named lonan on the isle of man??????????

Hi Judenjill, you may be right as Corkhill or Corkill are Manx names. As far as I know there are no Corkills in Lonan but there are or were two farms just down the road which were farmed by Corkills.
Just a point for Birdlip in that Morland is north west of Appleby just outside the Lake District National Park boundary.
You can see the Cumbrian coast from both Lonan and Maughold and there used to be a strong smuggling connection between Man and Cumberland

Sorry I missed telling you that Maughold, just along from Lonan, is where theCorkills farmed.
