If you have World Membership of Ancestry.com, you can access the German site.

I would have a look at the records held by 'The Church of the Latter Day Saints' LDS - go to familysearch.org - search records - library. You will need a family history centre close to you to view any film you wish to order.

http://www.agfhs.org.uk/about.html is a link to the Anglo-German History Society, who have an enormous amount of expertise, and also have a huge range of documentary evidence in their archives.

if your provider also gives access to newsgroups, I've always found the members of soc.genealogy.german very helpful.
