J & W HARROLD of Hinckley were well known builders and carpenters in the 1800's. William HARROLD(1809-1871) one of the partners is the one I am interested in. I have been unable to trace a Baptism and his parents. Any info on this family would be appreciated.

Hi Michael
Do you know whether the Harrolds you are researching have any connection with the Harrolds of Northamptonshire, specifically those in Welford, just over the county boundary from Leics. where they were the local millers during the mid 1800s?

Hello Tony
The only info we have on William HARROLD is from census apart from details of his business activites. Unable to find a Baptism. He states on census born Hinckley 1809. It doesnt look as if he is from Northants. Many thanks.

Thanks for your prompt reply. May I nevertheless ask how the name is connected to your research just in case there is a clue there. Welford is so close to Leicestershire, (and not far from Hinckley), that family members married into Leics. families and the most recent generations actually lived in Leicester.

Hi,
I too am researching the Harrold family of Hinckley but not sure if it's the same one.
My ancestor Elizabeth Harrold was baptised 16 January 1799.
Her parents were James (born about 1773) and Mary Harrold.
As far as I know she had a sister Mary baptised 12 March 1797 and two brothers James baptised 21 January 1811 and George born about 1800.
In the 1841 census Elizabeth's father, James Harrold was living in castle street with his son, George Harrold and the family of George and his wife Flora.
Next door was another son James Harrold junior who was a stocking maker.
Elizabeth Harrold married William Dawson on 25 December 1818 at Hinckley. Willaim Dawson was a cooper by trade.

Hi Jean
It sounds as though you and Michael should exchange notes but there is no obvious immediate link to the Harrolds I'm looking at in the Leics./Northants borders. I'm not sure how familiar you are with the local geography but the village of Welford is only about 15 miles as the crow flies from Hinckley and that's where the Harrolds I'm interested in are gathered in the mid 1800s. It would not be surprising if the families are related but the name is pretty common and any link could be centuries beforehand.
The person I'm interested in is John Richard Harrold of Welford and Sibbertoft. He was born about 1836/7 in Welford and was a corn miller. He had a largish family which split up for some reason before the kids were adult.
By another contact I have substantial details of what is almost certainly the same family but I do not know which of them is his father to link the two trees.
Good hunting.

Hello Jean and Tony
We have been researching the Harrolds of Hinckley for some time and especially interested in finding the Baptism and parents of my wifes 2X Gt Grandfather William Harrold born about 1808. Census details say born in Hinckley but no Baptism found.
He could be the son of James and Mary as the dates fit in between George and James.
William was also living in Castle Street in the 1841 Census.
I do have a record of your family, Jean. Besides Elizabeth I have a John Baptised 12 June 1797 but no Mary.
I believe James to be the son of John by one of his wives. If he was born about 1773 it would be 2nd wife. I have no Baptism for James.

Hello Michael
I'm afraid the only William I have was born in Welford well before that. However if you come across any millers or links to Welford, Sibbertoft or nearby villages please let me know.
regards

Hi,
I was very interested to hear about William harrold and yes his birth would fit in between George and James. Unfortunately I haven't come across him before.
If he did indeed live in Castle St in 1841 it would suggest that he could indeed be a son of James and Mary as well as a brother to George and James as they were all in Castle Street. Was he a stocking maker like brother James or needle maker like father James? In 1841 George lived with Father James and younger James lived next door.
I didn't know about John Harrold and wives. However James would have been born 1872/73 from his death certificate as he died 23rd April 1846 aged 73 years. He was buried st Mary's Hinckley 26th April 1846. Elizabeth his daughter was present at the death and registered the death on 24th April 1846.
Mary probably died in October 1839 but I don't have the certificate for that one yet.

Jean

I am looking for a Sarah Harrold who married over the Border in Bulkington in 1815. I can find very few Harrolds in the surronding villages and wonder if she may have come from the Hinckley area. Has anyone come across a Sarah born 1790 ish. There is an Edward Harrold in the Bulkington area at the same time (brother?). Does anyone have any Edwards born around the same time?
Thanks.

Hi Richard
I have 3 Sarah Harrolds but all born in the mid-1800s and in N'thants. I have not discovered any links between the the Harrolds in N'thants and Warwicks yet. Sorry but good hunting.

Hi, I'm also tracing an ancestor who was a builder in Hinckley. His name was Thomas Ireland b 1838 in Hinckley, son of Thomas and Mary (nee Palmer) During the 1860s he had premises on the corner of Castle and Bond Sts. Would anyone have any information about him or places he built in Hinckley?
