I THINK MY GREAT GRANDFATHER GEORGE LIGHTON (LAYTON)(LEIGHTON) BORN 1864 TIVETSHALL, NORFOLK
SERVED IN THE BOER WAR, I DO HAVE A PHOTO OF HIM BUT I COULDN`T GET IT ON HERE, HOW WITHOUT GOING TO KEW CAN I FIND OUT ANY INFO?
ALSO I BELIEVE HE MAY HAVE SERVED IN INDIA AS WELL.

I think he was in the Middlesex regiment.

Thanks for your help.
But I have no idea when he was discharged.
But he was in the Middlesex regiment, his Reg No. GF 1838
in the 1st world war he was in the Royal Defence Corps. Reg.No 76182

Please see the leaflet that I referred you to above.
If he was discharged between 1901 and 1913 (a likely period if he served in the Boer Wars), it should be a straight forward job to find his papers.
Soldiers discharged 1900-1913
For this period all discharge papers were filed alphabetically, for the whole army (WO 97/4232 to WO 97/6322 ). Some discharge papers may have been misfiled, and are now in a second alphabetic sequence in WO 97/6323 to WO 97/6354 . These documents are seen in the original, and are ordered on computer.
