Can anyone enlighten me please?
I cannot find my grandmother on the 1901 census.
She married my grandfather in 1898 and I know he was in the Boer war.
Could she have accompanied him to S.A. or been in married quarters ?
He was not an officer.
Kind regards
Terry

When did he join the army? Could he have been posted overseas prior to the South African War and she was with him? Possibly she joined the Princess Christian Nursing Reserve (late renamed the Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Reserve).

Thanks Geoffers,
I don`t know if he was a regular before the Boer war. On his marriage cert. his occupation was hairdresser.

Thanks for your time

He may have joined specifically for the South African War. it might be worth your while checking the following website:

other than that, if you can get to The National Archvies at Kew - you might try to locate his service record there. There is a separate thread on this forum detailing where to locate service records and their class numbers at TNA
