Shirley, do you know what part of the country he came from?

I wondered if he came back to this country and died? I searched from 1923 leaving the end blank and nothing for Louis William Dewsnap, but I accidentally put in William Dewsnap the first time by mistake, and there are several after that date. I just wondered if he was called William rather than Louis. Just a thought.

Probably wrong, but stranger things have happened. ;)

Hi
He was born in Watford Herts but he father Louis Arthur Dewsnap was born in Sevenoaks.
Louis W was born 1900 it is very possible he called himself William as his father often called himself Arthur!
Louis Arthur committed suicide in 1933 in Watford but like you I have found no trace of Louis William who I have been told may also have commited suicide! as far as I know he may have been in UK around 1933

That's good news Shirley. I guess you're stuck now unless you can find his death.

Sounds a bit of a detour! Actually, I think the ship was travelling from Australia to England & they embarked at Capetown. Their proposed address was 30 Wiggenhall Road, Watford, Herts. Louis William was a bus conductor, Florence Nirane was a head-waitress and Phyliss Jeanette was a scholar.

Louis William was my mums uncle - until I found this about him today we had no idea he had been to South Afica but that was were I now find he was dischardged from the navy around 1923 he may I think have then joind the SA navy but I dont know how to find details of that - the address in Wigenhall road was the family home of his parents but I dont know what happened after they came back here from SA and can find no death records for him or Florence and no records fo Phyliss!

Your chap obviously come back from South Africa but the South African National Archives catalogue shows 11 hits for the name Deswnap

http://www.national.archives.gov.za/

including one for a William Robert Dewsnap, which is the 1901/2 Record of Conduct and Service of the SA Constabulary.

Could Louis have gone out there to join some other branch of the family? It's a fairly unusual name, I would have thought.

Louis was born in 1900 - he joinew the navy in UK around 1919 - he came back to UK 1931 with a wife and child but he may well have met and married in SA - not sure but I cane find no marriage records in UK for him.
I am going to Archive in Hertford next week so thay may reveal more.
Thanks for your help much appreciated.
