Is anyone expert with these ?

i found an entry on the index for my 3xgg grandfather Balthasar Dietz in 1854 with the reference Vol 1 Folio 439.

The LDS Catalogue has two films for 1854 of the actual registers.
Surnames A-J (v.1) Folio nos 1-300
Surnames K-Z (vol2)folio nos 301-591.

I decided to go with the first one on the basis that it was alphabetical and Dietz was a long way before "K".

However I could not find the entry on the film, in fact the folio numbers were nowhere visible on the film that I had...

Having waited four months for this film I am reluctant to order the second- wrong folio- wrong part of the alphabet. Does anyone know if the entry I am seeking is likley to be on the second film, or is there another film with the rest of vol 1 on it ? These are PRO filmings by the way, not LDS.

Cheers..Ed

Well, I wouldn't say "expert", but familiar enough to see what's happened here. There are basically three different sets of registers for that period, and you have the wrong ones.
The folio numbers vary slightly, because the original numbers in the register, used in the index, don't match the stamped PRO folio numbers, but if it's split A-J and K-Z, what you have there is:
IR26/527 - this is Country courts admons, folios 1-297, surnames A-J
IR26/528 - this is Country courts admons, folios 301-592, surnames K-Z

Your man is not in the "country courts" admons in the index - he's in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury admons. Furthermore, he's not in volume 1 - take another look at that page of the index and you will see that it changes to volume 2 about half way down, when you get to Susanna Dines.
You would need:
IR26/280 - the second volume of P C C admons, which are not split alphabetically, it's just A-Z in two parts, that one covering folios 279-619.

Whether or not the LDS *also* have these PCC ones, I don't know, I am not familiar with their catalogue, so I'll leave someone else to work that out!
