I recently sent off for a death certificate for a great great grandmother in the hope of confirming a few details and finding out how she died.
The problem is I can't read the handwriting on the certificate.
Could anyone help ?

The first word looks like "Confinement"..middle section "2 days" and "certified by".

The rest i'm really struggling with.

Thanks everyone

Sorry about this. I've tried uploading the jpeg of the section I'm talking about but it just doesn't seem to want to display correctly.
I'm not sure If I am exceeding the allowed KB for attachments.
I've managed to get it down to 45kb but it still doesn't work.
And I can't delete my previous post.... Oh well....

Hi Jayson,

"Confinement" might refer to childbirth. If her age fits that.

Feel free to send me the image by e-mail if you like, and I'll have a try at reading it.

I've sent you a copy of the section I mentioned by e-mail Peggy.
I've also sent a copy to Mark who Private Messaged me.
Thanks to you both for your help and interest.

The second line is (I think) Periotonitis

The end of the last line (I think) is FRCS ... which might explain the style of handwriting.

The doctor's name might be Jack Porter, FRCS though this is slightly more guesswork that the above.

That is faint. I played with the contrast some, and got it a little better.

It is "confinement," probably in the sense of "the lying-in of a woman in childbed; childbirth," and the cause looks to me like peritonitis. Duration 2 days, I think. And there's the name of the doctor.

You could look to see if there was a birth registered. I don't know when this was, or what the procedure would have been if the child didn't survive.
