The registers are kept at Essex Record Office (http://www.essexcc.gov.uk/vip8/ecc/ECCWebsite/dis/gui.jsp?channelOid=13813&guideOid=14788) who may be able to provide copies on fiches if you cannot get to Chelmsford

The registers may have been copied onto film and be available for hire at a mromon church (LDS) record centre.

GENUKI Essex (http://www.nivek-systems.co.uk/genuki/ESS/)is a good place to look. Look at Church Registers and then Baptisms for a possible way of obtaining the information. Though this will be a transcript and not as useful as you looking at the actual registers.

I went on guide camp to great bardfield when i was 14, not much help i know but small word hey?

Essex Records Office is great, the staff there are really helpful and i understand form other researchers it is almost modern in comparison to some lol

my one tip if going there is take ID so you can get a pass (you can get a day visitor pass without but easier to get a proper one in case you go back) oh and take a watch with you or you might go in about 10am and come out in the dark wondering how that hour turned into 6 when you wernt looking

I am also researching ancestors (Taylor)from Bradfield Essex around early 1800,s and 1775. I have received the relevent microfiche from the Chelmsford record office unfortunately they were almost unreadable. I used the reader at my library but I could not read anything clearly. I phoned Chelmsford today and thet told me to return the microfiche for them to examine. It is a shame as I have waited 6 and a half weeks for them to arrive. Everybody else has nothing but praise for this office. Has anybody else had problems reading parish records on microfiche?

The quality varies greatly from parish to parish. Some are clear as the day they were written from the mid 16th century onwards - others (e.g. Worstead in Norfolk) are in an awful condition and take ages to read. Varying styles of handwriting can also cause problems.
