Hi I have a bit of a problem, on all the census that I have for my GG grandfather it gives his birthplace as Norwich apart from 1871 which gives St Marks Norwich. I am confused as I know most of the churches in Norwich having done a load of transcriptions for the NFHS. Where is or was St Marks in the early 1800's
Thanks for looking
Confused

From Pevsner:
ST MARK, Hall Road. 1844 by John Brown. The apse and vestry by J H Brown, 1864.... Hall Road is in Lakenham and the Parish Records at the Norfolk Record Office are listed under Lakenham St Mark.
Hope that helps

|woohoo| Lakenham who would have thought!! Still St marks church is to late, will have to look for a church in that area for late 1820's to 1830's. Thank you for your time and trouble in looking that up for me, very much appriciated.

The church for (Old) Lakenham in the 1820's was St.John's. The parish then was well separated from the city.

They are deposited with the NRO - if you want to check what the NRO holds for any parish, go to their website, scroll down to the table headed 'Information' and select the link "Parish Registers and Transcripts: summary"
If the NRO cannot supply the registers on fiches/film, then you might ask them for a quote on photocopying the ATs for the 1820's. Most (if not all) parish ATs are available on fiches up to 1812.
