I am still trying to find out if I am related to them. I have a George Nye marrying an Ann Wells in Lindfield in 1801. I suspect that this might be the same george.

Anyway, I've done a fair bit of research into the Nyes of Sussex. James and Ann I can tentatively link them back to the web-famous Bertolf Nye in 1443 (from Denmark). But proving it is a different matter.

Hi Jerry,
Doing this for a friend but do not have much on the Nyes at all. Anything you may have is going to be more than I have found out !
Would you mind if I sent you what I have on the family in the UK and you can correct/add/subtract any of the info for me or ... ..thanks

have you seen this page?
http://www.mandywillard.co.uk/surnames/nye/james_1758.htm

It definitely mentions your James Nye married to Ann Silverson.

I am also researching Nyes - ours are from Lewes dating back to William Nye, son Jonathan who is a direct ancestor.

Not sure if this helps.

I have a Martha NYE b.31/12/1780 in Henfield to Richard NYE <1748> and Elizabeth BONIFACE m. Horsham 11/8/1776. Richard was from Thomas NYE and Barbara GEERING m. Storrington 2/1/1748

I'd be interested if anyone has any NYEs venturing into NE Kent (particularly the Medway towns) in mid-late 18C.
