Yesterday afternoon I was wandering around a churchyard looking for an ancestor for one of my contacts. Hidden in the undergrowth I discovered a grave which was for my gg grandparents instead! Not only that, but as an added bonus, one of their sons was listed on the same stone - which confirmed that the stone did indeed relate to my ancestors! :D
Funny how things sometimes just turn up like that isn't it?
Sadly, there was no headstone for the person I was actually looking for :(

Well done Mark. It definitely does pay to help others. I once went to the Record Office to look at school records for a contact who thought an ancestor had been a teacher there. I didn't find what I was looking for at the school where I first looked - but was rewarded to find my husband's great grandfather being mentioned as a child, and his gg grandmother working at the school as a cleaner!!

A good find Mark.
Just over a week ago we were searching for a gravemarker in a small Lutheran cemetery in South Dakota, but all we uncovered were some snakes.
The cemetery nearly got two new members !!

That's brilliant Mark! I think they were working their magic for you, even though you weren't looking for them. ;)

They often pop up when you least expect them :) I hope you had your camera with you.

We have something in common, Mark! :)
A few years ago, from Cornwall FHS, I bought transcriptions for burials at Wendron, in order to find some GOLDSWORTHY ones. When we went to the graveyard a few years later, one stone had on the names I knew about ..... but nosey old me, pulled back the longish grass at the bottom of the stone.
What did I find? Another GOLDSWORTHY, who they didn't have in their transcriptions. :D

It was certainly a real thrill to find them :)
Luckily, we did have a camera - as well as my trusty dictaphone (I carry that whenever I go to a graveyard, just in case!).
Whilst wandering around the graves, I must admit I was a little wary of snakes - those towards the back of the churchyard were in some fairly good snake territory, but I always make sure I stamp around a bit to encourage them to slither away ;)
The son who was listed on the headstone is one of my "problem" ancestors - so it was good to locate his name on the stone too.
Mark :)

That's brilliant Mark - like Vanessa, I envy you, but at least I had the privilege of finding some last year. :)

Well done Mark.
I had a similar experience the day before I joined this site where I managed to locate a new sibling branch of an ancestor.
