My pet hate: I have never seen it in person, but see it all the time on the U.S. channels, and they all laugh. I hope that the custom never crosses the border.
At weddings, the groom and/or the bride will take a piece of the wedding cake and rub in the brides/grooms face. The other evening, I saw it again and the groom took the whole wedding cake and just ground it into his brides face and hair.Everyone was laughing so hard. disgusting! I would be having the marriage annulled on my way out the door. People's sense of humour has certainly changed in the last twenty years.

I hate that too - I've never seen it in real life but have seen it on TV. For those not familiar with the tradition, the bride and groom are supposed to take a forkful of cake and feed it to each other, as a romantic gesture. Now it seems that (at least on tv) they smush it into their faces.

Some people do a similar thing with a baby's birthday - they give a 1-year-old a birthday cake on the high-chair tray and then laugh and take photos as the baby makes a mess of him/herself and the cake. I hate that.

:) That's one of the things I like about B-G Forum - so many of the members grizzle about the same things that I grizzle about! :)
