Using IGI there is a William Mackill marrying a Sophia Camtry in Gloucestershire 1813 .... it's the nearest I can find.

What is IGI mean? And can you send me a link to any site that has records, such a their marriage and children's births? Thanks for you reply. This is so important to us.

IGI is 'International Genealogical Index". It is run by the Church of Latter Day Saints and can be found here (http://www.familysearch.org/eng/default.asp).

It is sourced from a number of records such as Parish records etc - these tend to be accurate. There are also some that are "member submitted". These may or may not be accurate and should be treated with caution and verified by yourself before accepting them as fact.

There is also Free BMD (http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/) and Free Reg (http://www.freereg.org.uk/). These are ongoing indexing projects being done by volunteers. Free BMD is from 1837 onwards with Free Reg being prior to that date. Both these sites only deal with U.K. events and are both only indexes.

If you google for the county you are interested in you may be lucky and find various transcripts online.

According to the Gloucestershire Marriage Index a William MACKILL married Sophia CAMBRY on 20 October 1813 at Quenington, Gloucestershire, by Banns.

There are a lot of CAMBRAY burials on the Gloucestershire Burial Index plus about 6 for CAMBREY and only 2 for CAMBRY so you may have to bear this in mind when searching for Sophia's baptism (if of course this is your family!!).

From Biglands Memorial Inscriptions of Gloucestershire, there is a reference at Fairford to a Robert CAMBRAY who died 23 June 1780, aged 83 who might be connected to your Sophia in some way.

That's just great. I'll be studying those free sites tonight and tomorrow.
With the wonderful people who are helping so, could you please tell me this:
I use the ROOTSWEB world connect pages alot and it's free. Is there such a system in the UK like that? The reason I ask is, since I keep my collections on Family Tree Maker, I am so used to reading the pages as they are setup, I find that if I could read on the UK Rootsweb, maybe there are connected relatives that still live there and have their family that connects to these early ancestors? Just tell me the website address, if there is one?

I am missing this fellow: John Mackall b. 14 Feb. 1819, married June 1, 1841 Mary Hicks b. 9th April 1818 then a Lizzie Warren b.1832 all England.
I fully understand (and I confuse easily) that in these early years, boundaries often changed as population grew. And I've noticed here in the US, it's often stated as being born in ENGLAND, (when they may have lived in Scotland, Wales or Ireland. Is there ANYWAY to certify the country of birth since I no NOTHING about how your United Kingdom was in those days?

Here in the US it's easy for me to grasp since I grew up with learning our States (and we sure had lots of boundary changes too).

Let me ask this simply: is there any Rootsweb World Connect site where a whole family is printed with birthdates, death, children, etc. just like it is here? Diane

Hi Diane,

Rootsweb may be hosted by Ancestry.com in the U.S.A. but the family trees loaded on it are from all over the world including the U.K.

When you John Mackell married was he in England at the time? Did he remain in England or did he go to the U.S. and if so when?

Just today I found the 1860, 1870 and 1880 Census for John and his family here in the US.

I don't need more info on him, but I DO on his siblings and his Mother and Father if you have those kind of resources.

Please write to me at my email address in my profile

Thanks for all your kind assistance too! Diane Marshall
