I am trying to find a birth record for John Mathias Jones. I think he was born about 1820 Haverford West Pembrokeshire. His father was Thomas Jones - Shopkeeper. He was in London in 1845 when he married Ann Maria Allchin.Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you A. Foreman

For an 1820 birth you will need to find the parish records. I am sorry I do not have access to them. Let us hope someone on here might.
However, I could look to see if he is in the 1841 census. Do you have this information?

Dear Sir
It is rather rare but not unknown to find dates of birth prior to 1837, one has to make do with baptism dates around the time of your interest.
I have been unable to find any reference to a baptism of a John Mathias Jones in Haverfordwest, nor is there a John Jones baptised in one of the three parishes of Haverfordwest around the time of your interest, if at any time you are able to prove the siblings of John Mathias Jones then with luck they may turn out to be Phillip Mathias Jones baptised 1827 at Marloes or James Mathias Jones baptised 1828 at Walwyn’s Castle.
Going off at a different tangent, I guessed the “Mathias” might be the maiden surname of John Mathias Jones’s mother, and have searched for a Thomas Jones to (?) Mathias prior to 1825, but alas nil found.
The only Thomas Jones I can find to possibly equate to “your” Thomas who mrd in Haverfordwest was Thomas Jones mrd 05 Mar 1816 to Margaret Morgans at Haverfordwest St Martin, interestingly a John Morgan Jones was baptised at Haverfordwest St Mary in 1833.

Thankyou for the information. I'm afraid I don't know whether he was still in Wales or in England in 1841. Did look at the census for London but there are so many ' John Jones' & not much other information so don't know which was which. I think I might need Parish records!! Thank you again for your time. regards A.Foreman

Again Thankyou for your suggestions. I have looked at the 1841 census for Wales & have found an entry - Haverford West St. Mary District 10 HighSt. a John Jones age 20 - Drapers with a Samuel Mathias age 15 Apprentice.. Don't know if I am on the right track but as suggested Mathias may be mothers maiden name. Also on John's amrriage cert. is stated Occupation Shopkeeper, as was his father Thomas. Any further information you could supply would be very helpful. Ann Foreman
