Hi,

Recently on a google search I found a site which listed a number of books on Cornish history, and helpfully had indexed peoples names and which books they could be found in. I was excited to find three names of interest to me.
Subsquent enquiries to the Reference section of my local genealogy library established that only one of the books was listed as being publicly accessible in Australia and then only at such a distance from me making it impossible to get there. Found that self same book on line but at too higher price.

So to the point of this post. I was wondering if there is some kind person out there who can either provide me with the relevant information from the books or tell me where I could get a photocopy of the actual pages from the books and for what cost? They are more than likely out of print.

ANNALS OF AN ANCIENT CORNISH TOWN, REDRUTH - Frank Michell. Dyllansow Truran, Trewolsta, Trewirgie, Redruth, Cornwall. - 1985 ISBN 0 907566 85 5
(Nancarrow, James - Tailor in Redruth 1856 on Page 147)

THE ST IVES MINING DISTRICT (Vol. 2) - Cyril Noall. Dyllansow Truran, Redruth, Cornwall - 1993 ISBN 185 022 0670
(Penhall, Digory - Boiler explosion Wheal Margery 1868 on Page 21)

LIFE IN CORNWALL (END OF NINETEENTH CENTURY) - R.M.Barton. D.Bradford Ltd, Truro - 1974
(Penhall, John - Injured in mine accident, Redruth 1882 on Page 63)

In anticipation, many thanks.
Alan

I would suggest you will find copies of these books within the Cornish Library Service |book| . They have an on-line catalogue at library.cornwall.gov.uk/www-bin/www_talis where you can search for any books held within the Cornish Library area. Should you find the ones you are after (and I bet you will!) I would think the library service would be prepared to photocopy the relevant pages for you, for a small fee.

Best wishes
Ann

Hi Alan, I own a copy of "Annals of an Ancient Cornish Town - Redruth" by Frank Mitchell and the reference you require on page 147 is part of a 4 page alphabetical listing of the 1856 Kelly's Directory of Redruth; so unfortunately there is little information, it simply reads; ......"Nancarrow, James, Tailor, Fore Street"........

Hi Ann and Dick,

Thank you very much for your imput. I have only just checked back in and discovered your replies. I did search the on-line catalogue of the library and discovered two of the books I was interested in. I did email them regarding enquiries and fees but have received no reply. No worry, there's a good chance I will be there in May, so will check for myself.

Thanks again,
Alan
