RUTH THORP born AMPETHILL (?)STAFFORDSHITRE 1846

My Great Grandmother Ruth Thorp ( later Southworth) was born near to Tipton in Staffordshire. The only birth transcript I can find ( July- Sept 1846. 85 xi 4) is difficult to read. It names her birthplace as Ampethill or something similar. Can anybody help please?

Ampthill - it's in Bedfordshire.

Thanks Jan. That's a surprise as on the censuses she variously states Tipton, Summerhill or Wolverhampton as her birth place. Perhaps I am looking at the wrong birth record

Either that or she may have moved to Staffordshire as a child and whoever recorded the birth entry on the censuses was not aware of where she was actually born.

Mind you, it is only the birth that was registered in Ampthill. She may have been born elsewhere. This is not usual, but has happened. Only the certificate detail will be able to answer that one.

Me again. I have just found a Ruth Thorp born in Dudley in the December 1/4 of 1846. This fits in with her baptism which was November of that year and Tipton apparently comes under the Dudley area. Thanks for your help
