When and where was he sentenced?

As he was sentenced in Oct 1870 and was in Pentonville prison in April 1871 then it seems as though that's where he was serving the initial part of his sentence. There's an 1862 book on Pentonville prison at http://www.victorianlondon.org/publications5/prisons-06.htm
which states that the length of time served in Pentonville was 9 months, and the prisoners were kept in solitary confinement, after which they were sent on the other prisons.
