I'm trying to trace the Army records of my grandfather, William Parry, from WW1. I know he was in the Monmouthshire Regiment - my aunt said it was the "1st Mons". I've found five records for this name on the National Archives site for the Monmouthshire Regiment, all with different regiment numbers. How can I find out which one is the right one?

Have you tried searching the burnt and unburnat records from WW1?
Have a browse of this news item on TNA's web-site (http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/news/stories/166.htm)as to where you can locate them.
Does he appear in the National Roll of the Great War? It is not complete but is still a useful resource. It can be found on the pay-per-view site findmypast.
