Was walking round a church flower festival the other day and noticed a list of all the previous vicars of that church. A number of them had the letters DUS after their name and nobody seemed to know what it meant. There were also some with a latin word after their name which sadly i forgot to write down.
Can anyone enlighten me on the meaning of this.

I did a google search for acronyms and there were quite a few. (I tried to post the list, but it became so mangled when I pasted it in, that I have abandoned it!)

I think you can safely ignore most of them - but what about

Diis Universis Sacrum (Latin: Sacred to All the Gods, epigraphy)
It seems to suit the occasion!

Sacred to All the Gods

Isn't there only supposed to be one? :D

Of course - and for a clergyman that would probably be important!! ;)

Worth a shot - I thought - others that came up on the list were:
Dynamic Underground Stripping - which I suppose could apply to a grave
and
Door Unlocking System - I thought that might be a bit late :D

I was only ribbing, Barbara ;) ...and pretending to have theological knowledge

I supposed so  but since looking at the list again, I feel sure that Dynamic Underground Stripping is best suited to a tombstone!!:D

Thanks for your ideas. My only other thought was that it was a misprint as DSS is Doctor of Holy Sacred Scripture.
