Family story goes that my Great grandfather left the UK to live in the USA around 1900. Arthur Coles b. 1875 Selston Nottinghamshire Mother Emily Father William lived in Selston Notts. Can't find him mentioned in any census past 1891 when he was living with his stepbrother Thomas Clarke and other siblings Sarah Elizabeth Clarke, Rose Mary Clarke, Bertha Coles not his parents.
Could anyone shed any light please? I don't know where in the US he was supposed to have gone or even if he did go there at all.
Thanks

Jiff

This appear tp be the same chappy on all voyages. A Manager travelling for the firm. Wife Mrs Ella M. Coles Hillside Wells rd. Bath.
Then Same lady N.Jersey Mont Clair.

The 1922 view kept bring up the wrong ship.

This chao comes up in 1901 as born Somerset.

Immediately under his is I think you Arthur,b. 1877 coal miner 'boarder' from
Selston Notts. living with (oddly) Joseph Flint 25 coal miner, Rose Mary Flint "George Hy COLES" son,b.Selston, Elsie Flint dtr 3 & Ernest Flint 1 son.

Perhaps George was wrongly attributed to the Flints as 'Son' by thecensus chappy, perhaps Rose is aSister to Arthur.

cheers (I hope) Wendy

Thank you so much Wendy. It seems this maybe my g grandfather, don't know why I couldn't find it before. Maybe he moved around from sibling to sibling. I wonder if George Henry was Rose Mary's son before she married Joseph Flint? Yet another avenue to follow
MY g grandfather Arthur left my g grandmother, when my grandmother was just a babe in arms, story was he wanted to go to the US but g grandma refused to go with him. Wonder what happened in the years after that? Roll on 1911 census!

No problem, Jiff.

I like to get my money's worth out of my subscriptions.

At least you know now that, if he did go to the States, it wasn't until after 1901.

maggie
