My GGGG Grandfather John Cummiskey B 1800 was a Master Shoe Maker in Glasgow and his son Hugh Cummiskey B 1820 was a Master Slipper Maker they were both born in County Monaghan - Ireland and migrated to Glasgow in 1847... Hugh's son Matthew Cummiskey B 1847 in Glasgow was also a Master Shoe Maker and at least six more ancestors in my family tree were Shoe Makers (I wondered why I love shoes so much) I also have at least 10 Hand Loom Weavers among the ancestors..... I've heard that Weavers were generally protestant and Shoemakers were mainly catholic...is this accurate ?
and Does anyone know where I can find some old images of shoemakers at work for my family research ?....thanks Chris

If you use the google search engine, just put two keywords in - images shoemaker - and up will come some lovely old pictures.

Thank you to Peter Goodey and Christine R
I answered my own silly question and found some great old shoemaker Piccies on Google...I did however, really want to get actual photos of Glasgow Shoemakers from 1850's although what I found is more than sufficient...

...I did however, really want to get actual photos of Glasgow Shoemakers from 1850's ...Unlikely, I think, as portrait photography didn't really take off until the 1860s. Exposures were far too long (eg 2 minutes in bright sun) and/or the processes too messy much before that date for anything other than studio portraits. The cost was not inconsiderable too - one guinea in London.
