Hi I have hit a |banghead| I have been searching for a Miles Morley Born in Brigg Lincolnshire in 1841. He inlisted in the Royal Marines in 1861 and left in 1882 according to the records I found on the National Archives he was 19 when he joined up. He died on 16 Sept 1901 in Gillingham Kent aged 60.
He married Fanny Nicholls in Woolwich Kent in Quarer 3 1869 also couldn't trace her birth record which was given as Bromley Kent 1846. He was transferred to Chatham in 1869 from Woolwich
On the 1901 Census his place and and county of birth where as above.
I have done extensive searchs on BDM and the only Miles Morley I found was born in Preston Lancashire which I believe he emmigrated to America in 1860.
I would be most grateful for any tips or help on these to people

Hi Steve,
The next thing would be to get the marriage cert for Miles and Fanny, which would give you the fathers names and occupations. Then take it from there.

I have now got a copy of Miles Morley and Fanny Nicholls wedding certificate. His father was a Miles Morley and his occupation was a waterman, her father was John Nicholls and his occupation was a Labourer. Witnesses were Thomas Nicholls and a Sarah King. They were married 22 July 1869 at the Parish Church of St Paul , Charlton, Kent.
I have unfortunately not renewed my Ancestry membership so can't check the 1951 Census for either one to see other information that might be available. Is there anywhere else I can can begin to search

The Centre for Kentish Studies (http://www.kent.gov.uk/leisure-and-culture/archives-and-local-history/archive-centres/centre-for-kentish-studies.htm)?
The link on this site to Local history in libraries (http://www.kent.gov.uk/leisure-and-culture/archives-and-local-history/archive-centres/local-history-libraries.htm) indicates that Kent libraries have access to the company to which you refer.
Kent census cds should be available for purchse via The Parish Chest (http://www.parishchest.com/)
this is a coincidence...
your "Miles Morley" is on the same page of the 1881 census* as my "Thomas Wilson", HMS Pembroke, Chatham, which I believe is the shore base.
Unfortunately, I have not been able to find any more info on National Archives, I am hoping the seamans service records are an ongoing project and he will show up soon!

Regarding Thomas Wilson have you searched Royal Marines page found a reference for 1883 for a Thomas Wilson http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/displaycataloguedetails.asp?CATID=5131451&CATLN=6&Highlight=,THOMAS,WILSON&FullDetails=True
Might not be the same one though
My gr grandfather in criminal court!!! never...lol
I presume he left the navy in 1881, as he married in Manchester in November of that year, occupation furnaceman, which I think is an occupation he could have used in the navy.
If only I lived nearer to Kew!!!!!!!
Are there any other records that are specific to HMS Chatham? or is it NA only?
