Hi I am researching a family member William Worth who was born in Shaugh, Devon

William was born in 1825 in Shaugh, Devon and was living in Portsmouth most of his life as he was In the Royal Marine Artillary

In 1851 he was in the Marine Infirmary and the occupation looks like runner/gunner

In 1861 they were living in Alverstock at 8 Trafalgar Square and what was in the census is written below:

William Worth b1825 in Shaugh, Devon Occupation: Sgt Royal Marine Artilllary
Sarah b1826 Fareham
William b1855 Portsea
Frederick b1856 Portsea
John Thomas b1860 Forton

In 1871 Sarah is mentioned as widowed so William has obviously died between 1861 and 1871

Can someone please help me with finding anything out about Williams military records and details.
Thanks

Have you triedthe A2a national archives website? Put Royal Marine artillery into it and you get a search box. Put his name in and see what it brings up.

Have you seen this?

But they may not have got far enough yet!

Let's hope he was discharged before he died. It's always more difficult to find records if they died in service.

Looks like your William Worth ADM 159/61/624 Service in Royal Marines Light Infantry Plymouth and ADM 157/178/385 Folios 385-389 Attestation papers to serve in 1858 aged 19.
Discharged 1863 as an invalid.
All held at Kew.

I'm afraid neither of those birth dates fit.

I think the records, if anywhere, are most likely to be in ADM 157/2850 et seq. or ADM 159/20 et seq.
