Could anyone help me trace the doolan family from ireland?
her father is assumed to be James doolan and she married twice
a bird and a brennan.
Any idea where doolan is common in ireland?
thanks
julie
I assume this is the marriage of Julia to the Brennan?
December quarter 1853, Birmingham district
vol 6d page 287
which shows Julia Doolan and also Michael Brennan.
If it is the correct marriage, it is odd that she is called Doolan if previously married to a Bird. One would expect her to be Julia Bird....
If she was born in about 1833, she would only be around 20 years of age at this marriage if indeed it is her.
Was the marriage to Mr Bird in Ireland do you think?

Doolans are in most counties in Ireland- Offaly, Kilkenny, Meath, Dublin, Limerick, Clare and a few in Cork.
Brennans are in Mayo, Roscommon, Tipperary, Sligo, Kerry, Waterford, Donegal etc etc and Birds? I think I saw one or two in Offaly.(Lots of Birds in Suffolk. England!)
Think over what you know. Did anyone mention any names/ places that you can remember hearing.... Birr ,for instance, or Charleyville(Cork) or Meath?
You really need a place however seemingly insignificant. Is anywhere in Ireland mentioned on any of the English censuses for your people.
Once you have a hint of a place-name then it's a starting point.
Have a look on Griffifths valuation to see where there are most Brennans, Doolans/Doolins and Birds.
M
www.failteromhat.com (http://www.failteromhat.com) will show you Griffifths valuation.
If you put Brennan and county Kilkenny into the search box it will come up with dozens of Brennans and lots of James Brennans in various parishes. You will see it gives the townland, the parish and the county. Searching Irish relatives is not easy but knowing the townland and parish makes it easier. Once you know the parish you can write to Parish Priest for a look -up(enclosing a donation for his trouble).
But getting Julia's marriage cert for the marriage to last of her husbands should be some way towards finding where her other marriages were.

I think her name was
julia doolan father james doolan ( farmer )
then she married a james bird and a micheal brennan. Not sure which order.
She is shown as Bird after brennan on the later census however i think she returned to her previous marraiage name.
I heard a kilkenny ir cork i think
thanks for all your help.

New UPDATE i have an email from last year i have just found:
here it is
. Julia Doolan married Michael Brennan in Birmingham in 1853 (both from Ireland) . Michael died between 1867 and 1875. In 1875 Julia married James Bird and he died between 1875 and 1881. Julia Bird moved to Coventry with her son Michael around 1898 and she died in the workhouse in Coventry in 1906. Edward Brennan was born in Islington London although his birth was registered in Birmingham in 1867.
if this information can help others help me
best wishes
julie
Julias marriage to Michael Brennan is the one I mentioned earlier in this thread. So - I would start by ordering a copy of that certificate which should indicate where Julia was from and the name of her father.
It should be fairly easy to follow the family of Julia and Michael (and later James) via the censuses.
In 1881, this is her -
Julia BIRD Head W Female 45 Ireland Paper Sorter
Mary BIRD Daur M Female 23 Birmm General Servt Unemployed
Lawrence BRENNAN Son U Male 25 Birmm Tube Drawer
Michael BRENNAN Son U Male 20 Birmm Gen Laborer
William BRENNAN Son U Male 17 Birmm Metal Roller
Edward BRENNAN Son U Male 13 Birmm
