I am asking in this forum as I have discovered the surname Brindley is know to be in the Staffordshire County.
All info regarding the James and Mary Brindley I'm searching for is greatly appreciated.
James Brindley and Mary are believed to have been married in England.
James in 1829 Hobart Tasmania is listed as abeing a private in the Royal Veterans on his son's birth registration.
No info prior to his son's birth registration is known to date.

A google came up with...
Private James Brindley arrived Tasmania 26 Aug 1826 as a member of Number 3 Company Royal Veterans of Tasmania ( 1826 - 1833) on the ship " John Barry"
Knocks the timing back another few years.
By the way, the 1829 entry is a baptism, civil registration did not begin until 1838 in Tasmania.

Thanks Christine,
You are a wealth of info.
oops, yes a baptism record.
Says Samuel was born 16 October 1829 and baptised 8th November by (looks like) William Bedford.

There are 2 Staffordshire marriages on Family History Online for a James BRINDLEY to a Mary between 1820 and 1826:
29 December 1820 at Norton-le-Moors James BRINDLEY married Mary BLOOR
28 August 1825 at St Peter Stoke on Trent James BRINDLEY, bachelor, Clockmaker
married Mary BEAVIS, spinster.
Don't know if either of these ring any bells for you.

Thanks Janet,
With the info ChristineR provided, I have searched the PRO and found 2 service entries for James Brindley.
James Brindley
born Harna, Nottinghamshire
served in 83rd Foot Regiment
Discharged age 34
covering dates 1803-1820
James Brindley
born Arnold, Nottinghamshire
served 83rd Foot Regiment; Royal New South Wales Veterans
Discharged age 42
discharged 1830
I think they are both the same person and as the only service entries for James Brindley (plus this one was in the Royal New South Wales Veterans), that this is my James Brindley.
A quick search of marriages in Nottingham on the IGI has located a James Brinley marrying Mary Searcey, Arnold, Nottingham, England 25th April 1823 (just 3 years before my James & Mary arrived in Tasmania) so this appears to be their marriage.
Again thanks for your help, it is greatly appreciated.
