I have obtained the death certificates of my great great grandparents. I am not sure if I have enough information to obtain their birth certificates. Their names were Edward Dutton Born 1821 at Tattenhill, Cheshire - died 12 Jan 1906 at Hatton Heath Tattenhill. My great great grandmother was born Martha Harnott born 1828 at Newton, Cheshire- died 29 May 1903 at Hatton Heath Tattenhill . If anyone is able to give me some advice, it would be appreciated. With thanks.. Linda Dutton P.S. I believe that they were married in a civil ceremony in 1851 in Cheshire.

Hello Linda,

Unfortunately, you will not be able to obtain birth certificates for your great, great grandparents as civil registration did not start in England and Wales until 1 July 1837.

The nearest that you can hope for is a record of their baptisms. Sometimes, the minister or clerk also made additional notes, such as the childs date of birth, in the margins.

Bearing in mind where you are, it might be worth shooting off an email to the Cheshire Records Office (http://www.cheshire.gov.uk/familyhistory/), asking if someone there would undertake a look-up for you. Unless, of course, someone on the forum has access to the appropriate records...

So, bearing that in mind, I am sliding this across to the Cheshire forum. ;)
