Baptism of Abraham, 28 feb 1835 gives only name of mother, Margaret Titley. There is Edwin Titley bap. 12th June 1837 with parents James and Margaret Titley.
Lots of Titleys bap. at St. Mary's.
There is an Edward but dates won't fit.

Although I can't help because I don't have access to the register, I would like to underline that you are quite right to want to know what the actual parish register said. In these sort of cases there is always the possibility of a marginal note or some other clue about the father.

This would have been relevant to the old parish Poor Law responsibilities.

If nobody has a copy of the registers, it would be worthwhile to take steps to check them for yourself.

hi marie thank you for taking the time to look as far as i am aware margret never married she is on various censuses as margret titley and on 1 states she is married but her name is still margret titley then on the next she is a widow still margret titley she is never with a husband only living with a man as his housekeeper a brick wall at the moment i will check if it is edward or edwin as far as i know it's edward but thank you so much for your time

marie c has looked

Perhaps she has but the message didn't specify what she was quoting from so I'm not making any assumptions.

Jemima,

There is certainly a William SHENTON in the 1841 census of Stafford St Mary who is living on the same street as Margaret TITTLEY and her 2 children Abraham and Edward. The street in question is Back Wall North and William is on HG107/1010/3, folio 18, page 27 and the reference for Margaret is HO107/1010/3, folio 19, page 30 (the family are mistranscribed as LITTLEY by Ancestry).

hi janbooth yes i have seen this census the problem i have is linking margret to william shenton she is never with him on any census and although on one census says she is married she is still margret titley then on next census says she is a widow very confusing but thanks for reply
