Been going round in circles on this one - tried other forums but no progress. |banghead|
Elizabeth Ellam married Joseph Garside 1868 in Stayley giving her father's name as Thomas Ellam, a carder by profession.
All subsequent census records give dob as 1849 and place of birth as Dukinfield. Seemed simple. But, there is no sign of an Elizabeth Ellam being born in 1849 in the Tameside area. There is one born 1849 in West Cheshire but her father is a watchmaker.
There is an Elizabeth Ellam born 1841 in Dukinfield but her father is William Ellam and she dies that same year 1841.
There is an Ellam family on the 1851 census living in Dukinfield:
William and Maria plus son William and his wife Helen (from above paragraph) with another daughter Maria Connor Ellam born 1849 who dies later that year. Another daughter Mary born 1844 is on the 1861 census but not the 1851 census!
William (the younger from above) has a brother Thomas who marries Alice Kershaw in 1846 in Didsbury Manchester. In 1851 he is living in Mottram with his wife and in-laws in Newton but no Elizabeth recorded and childless as far as I can ascertain.
So, good people, where on earth was Elizabeth Ellam in 1851, 1861 and who are her parents? |help|
