Hi all,
Been researching for about a year,on my paternal side the surnames I'm interested in are DIXON and SANDERS from the Helsby area of Cheshire. Any information would be greatly appreciated!
Hello Moonpig. I am familiar with Helsby. Can you give me a bit more info? The Dixon name in Helsby was associated with farming.

Hello jayn,
Thanks for your reply.I've really been quite fortunate with the Dixon side of the family,a lot of my information has been obtained from other researchers. My great grandfather's name was John Dixon, born May 1841 in Elton,Cheshire and died in 1933 in Weston,Cheshire. His parents were Joseph Dixon (1815 Helsby)and Elizabeth Atherton(1817 Alvanley).Joseph's mother was Elizabeth Dixon, she was born in Oakmount farm,Bates Lane,Helsby.Joseph's father was Jonathan Dutton(1794 Thornton-le-Moors),there's no record of a marriage that can be found.
I've come to a grinding halt with my Grandmother who was brought up with the Sanders family in Norley, although she was born Gladys Prandle, around 1898 in Overton Wales. The only information I have on the Sanders is that they were called Thomas and Sarah.Sarah was Glady's mother's sister.I've obtained this information from my aunt, who was aged 2 when her mother died. What information she got had to literally be dragged out of the family.I've sent for a birth certificate for a Gladys Prandle I've found who's birth was registered in Wrexham in 1898,but can find no record of her living with a Thomas or Sarah Sanders in the 1901 census.
Regards,John.
Hi Moonpig. I hope by now you may have good news on receipt of the birth cert for Gladys.
As a matter of interest, there is an Overton just a few miles away from Norley and Kingsley, (all under Frodsham) Cheshire.

Hi Jayn,
I have received the birth certificate, she was born 9th October 1898,mother Sarah Prandle but no father named. Her occupation is listed as 'domestic servant' this bears out the family rumour that Sarah conceived whilst in service on an estate around the Overton area and that the father was 'a man of some standing and a true blooded Welshman'. I've been looking for a Thomas Sanders and Sarah Sanders but found nothing that fits, but have found a Thomas Sanders living in Norley with a wife called Mary who was born in Overton in the 1891 census but nothing in 1901 so far.Regards,John.
