Hi

I have a Butcher's Apprentice in 1841 but he was 25 or possibly older at the time. Would this have been too old?
Also, if it is the same person, by 1851 he was a Baker!

Does anyone have any answers?

By no means. I have a copy of an indenture dated 1841 where the apprentice is age 45, the apprenticeship being as a coach painter for three years.

Hi Colin and thanks for the reply. John wasn't too old then to be an apprentice butcher in 1841.

It is strange though that in 1851 his occupation was given as a Baker - I wonder if this was an error on the part of the enumerator. Also in 1848 on the birth of his daughter his occupation was given as a Farmer. Talk about career change!!

Thanks again

Mary
