Good Morning from a soggy Cumbria,

I have been reviewing my family history notes to determine who I need to look for next.

I have a Joseph Dent born in 1823 in Whashton, Yorkshire. He married a lady called Hannah (surname unknown) also year of marriage unknown but their first child was born in Neasham, Durham in 1854. Any ideas as to how to find their marriage would be greatfully received, I am most interested to find out Hannah's surname.

Hi Genie60,

A search of FreeBMD (http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/) found:

Marriages March Quarter 1853

Dent Joseph South Shields 10a 455
Hart Hannah South Shields 10a 455

Hi Procat

Thankyou for that - I did look on freebmd but did not go far enough plus my geography is appalling! Hannah's surname being Hart is interesting because they named their son born in 1856 Joseph Hart Dent - I always thought it was a christian name not a surname!

Thanks again Procat

It's good when they include the maiden name of the wife in the child's name. Can often add just a little more certainty - though sometimes incorrectly. :)
