SHIPPING FLEET/BOAT IN CORNWALL

I wonder if someone could help me or put me onto the right track.

My husbands grandfather on his maternal side came from Marazion. Their surname was PHILLIPS. The grandfather's name was William George Richard CLAY. He also used the name as MILLETT at times, hence our surname of MILLETT-CLAY.

He came out to South Africa just after the Anglo Boer War and married
Isabella Johanna DE JONGH/DE JONGE. By 1911, they had 3 sons and the third son James Henry MILLETT-CLAY was baptized in the St. John's Church,
Marizion, Cornwall on 11 January 1911. The 1st son William George Millett
(names) CLAY (surname) was born in SA in 1907, the 2nd son Richard John
MILLETT-CLAY was born 1908 and we believe the 3rd son James Henry (above) could have been born either in Cornwall or on boat to Cornwall, or perhaps in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire where the CLAY side of the family lived.

It was around this time (1911) that he - as the story goes - had a Fishing
boat/Fleet and operated it in the Penzance, Newlyn, Marizion area for a
while and was in partnership with a man unknown to us.

He lost his money, sold his fleet/boat and came back to South Africa to join
the De Beers Kimberley Diamond Mines.

My query is: Can one find out what the name of his Fishing Fleet or Fishing
Boat was???? round about 1910/1911. Where he could have stayed at the time?
Are there any records of people of that time?

Maybe one could start with St. John's Church where their 3rd son was
baptized.

I would be very grateful if some one could help me.

The release of the 1911 UK census will start sometime late next year, I think. That might give some starting points if he was in Cornwall at the time.

It may be worth contacting the Penzance branch of the Old Cornwall Society. They are likely to have members with an interest in the fishing fleets there and may well be able to assist.

Thank you for your reply it is really appreciated. I looked at the website of Old Cornwall and what an interesting site.

Also I hope to find the MILLETT or CLAY when the 1911 census comes out next year.
