Hi , I have in my Brickwall bag, this fella Edward, now, he is my GGGrandfather, born around 1854 in Blackburn, according to 1871 census in Carlisle which is where he was living at the time. In the census his surname is given as Noble, I have him on 1871 and 1861 census in Carlisle( i think, its been a while lol). In 1874 he marries Martha Lightfoot in Carlisle, his name is given as Noble Robinson, fathers name Martin Noble. He vanishes after 1881, i cant find him anywhere until his death early 1900s in Carlisle as Robinson.

I cant work out why he changed his name, but more important to me, i cannot find a record of his birth, or in fact any details for a Martin Noble that would fit. I would love to know where he went, the whole family vanish after 1881, no sign of them on census in 1891 though i have located one daughter living with her maternal grandparents in 1891 in Carlisle.

Without flooding the pge with useless info, if any one can help find him and the reasons , i would be grateful,.

thanks

You may already have this info, but if not...

1861 St Bees Whitehaven
John Wood 23
Isabella 22
Ada 2
EDWARD NOBLE nephew 9 Blackburn

(Possible marriage for above) John Wood + Isabella Robinson 25May 1858 Parish church
Ulverston Lancs.

1861 census Lancaster Lancashire RG9/3157 folio56 page10
Martin Noble 36 inspector of telegraphs Preston Lancs
Ann 33 N.K.Cumberland
Thomas 6 Carlisle ...
Isabella 5 Houghton in Parnegs Lancs.
Jane 3 ....... ... ......... .......

If the marr.info in previous message is correct, possible Ann did'nt wed father of Edward
(Martin) until he was 2/3 yrs old or he was illigit.

In later census seems as though Ann died -Martin re-wed a Sarah.also he has a sister-
in-law Esther Robson.

Hi , I was stunned to get reply so soon, I had got some of the info you gave , but didnt feel I could connect it, Martin was my lissing link, but seeing his job as Telegraph Inspector clinches it as on Edwards Marriage cert, Martins occupation is given as Engineer, and I have Edwars job as telegraph engineer!

Thanks so much, I now have another branch ot investigate :)
