I have reached a dead end on the following names: John Nixson b 1875 Sheffield, Yorkshire, married Emilia Hammond ( b 1880) in 1894 Sheffield and had three children- Arnold 1901, Elizabeth b 1897 and Eliza b 1895
Arnold was my grandfather. It is my understanding that he was raised by his step father, Albert Brown. This is all I have. Arnold died in the 60's in Derby. I am curious to know what happened to Elizabeth and Eliza as to if they had families. As far as I know there are no living members of this part of the family. I would also be curious to know if Emilia and Albert had any children.
I have full access to Ancestry and no information is available.
I would appreciate any help. Thanks B

I think this is your family on the 1901 census
RG13; Piece: 4382; Folio: 37; Page: 12
72 Carbrook Street, Sheffield
John NIXON Head 26 [think it says Furnaceman Stoker?]
Amelia Wife 24
Eliza dau 6
Elizabeth dau 4
Arnold son 2 m (Ancestry has indexed him as Winola!)
All born in Sheffield
Don't know if it's co-incidence, but their next door neighbour was a Joseph BROWN

Working forwards is not easy. Basically it's just a slog through the GRO indexes ordering certificates as you go.
If you want to concentrate on John Nix(s)on's ancestry, there are some possible census entries before his marriage but we would need information from his marriage certificate in order to advise further - for example his occupation, age, father's name and occupation.

As you say Arnold died in Derby, it seems likely that the family moved to Derbyshire and that these are the marriages of Eliza and Elizabeth.
Elizabeth NIXSON m John W. TIPPLE
Dec qtr 1914 Derby
Vol 7b page 1240
Eliza NIXSON m Charles W. ROGERS
Jun qtr 1921 Shardlow, Derbyshire
Vol 7b page 985
(second entry on same page with same reference for Elsie Nixson, which is presumably what she was called)

Couldn't immediately find any children for Eliza or Elizabeth. In searching for them on FreeBMD I noticed an Arnold HERBERT, born Derby June qtr 1925, mother's maiden name NIXSON, but haven't found a marriage of a NIXSON to a HERBERT yet.

Aha!
John W. TIPPLE (son of John and Elizabeth?) died aged 1 March qtr 1916
John W. TIPPLE died June qtr 1919 Derby aged 23
Elizabeth TIPPLE m John W. HERBERT Dec qtr 1919 Derby Vol 7b page 1707
So the Arnold HERBERT born 1925 was your grandfather's nephew.

Thank you so much for the new info. I will look further into the Herbert line. I'm assuming Emilia and Albert did not have any additional children.
