Hi
I am hoping someone can help me. I am looking for any information about the family of Edwin Dale.... particularly bdm. Edwin was b in 1820 in Dulverton Somerset (F. John Dale M. Susannah Nott). I have found him on the Channel Islands Census by 1851......married to Eliza (b about 1817 St Helier Jersey) with a son Edwin b 1850 St Helier. By the 1861 Census he had 3 children ..... Eliza b 1854, John b 1858 & Susan b 1860.....children all born St Helier...... but no Edwin Jr. Edwin Sr had died by 1891 because Eliza was a widow & living with son John & wife Emma Reid & children. Eliza had died by 1901 Census. I am hoping that someone can fill in the gaps for me.......

Regards
Fiona

Hello Fiona,

Have you tried GENUKI (http://user.itl.net/~glen/jersey.html) for finding out what is where in Jersey? Scroll down and you will be able to find links to help with BMD registrations and parish records, amongst other things.

Good luck!

Fiona

You are another person who has removed where you are based |scold| so we don't know where you are, so it could be pointless me telling you where to look.

Just in case anyone is unsure how to do this:

Click on user CP
Click on "Edit Profile"
Then go to any box that you have left blank (including location) and add something.
Scroll to the bottom and click on save changes.

Have fun! :D

Hi Fiona

If you are using A******y 1871 census transcription, you won't find this family indexed because the page concerned appears to have been missed in the transcription. The family is still at the same address (13 Union St) and in order to find it you must go this way:

Channel Island 1871 census,
Scroll down click on Jersey, then click on St Helier, then District 29, then Go To page 16.

You will find at 13 Union St, St Helier
Edwin Dale, head, married, age 50, currier, b Somerset
Eliza, wife, age 54, born St Helier
Eliza, daur, age 17, born St Helier
John, son, age 17, apprentice currier, born St Helier
Susan, daud, age 11, Scholar, born St Helier
Also in House:
John La Croix, Lodger, Widower, age 54, Ships Master, born St Helier
Mary Ann La Croix, visitor, Daur (presumably of John La Croix), Scholar, born St Helier

Jersey Archives are here: http://jerseyheritagetrust.jeron.je/home.html

If you click on Archives, then "Names" and put the surname "Dale" in the search box, you will find baptisms for Edwin's children.

That is a great site, thank you. I have found baptism records for Edwin's children and his wife's surname. I am now working my way through his son John's children.
