|blush|Recent research of my family in Nottinghamshire led me to a certain Joseph Orme b 1851 Eastwood, Notts. He seems to have been passed around the family from infancy, with an aunt in 1851, another aunt in 1861 etc. He finally married and in 1881 he lived at Stapleford, Notts. with his wife. They were childless at this time. Joseph was a coal merchant and Marion a "dressmaker". On the original census form, RG11 P3391 F59 P26, you will see that in the extreme right hand column used to denote whether deaf, dumb, blind or imbecile , the enumerator has written "DRUNKARD"
Coupled with what I read on the forum recently about "dressmaker" possibly meaning "prostitute" I wonder !!! |blush|
