I am looking for the first marriage of my great grandfather George Davies.
He was baptised on 1st. July 1838 in Pains Lane (St. George) Shropshire.
He last appears in the Census in 1861, age 22, as a Miner in Stone, together with his mother Eleanor, father Enoch and brother and sister Frederick and Emily - I cannot find him in the 1871 Census, or record of a marriage in Shropshire.

His second marriage was to Alice Fare in June 1875 at St. Mary's Eccles.
George is recorded as a Railway Clerk, living in the Parish of St. Mark, Hanley Staffs. George's father is recorded as Enoch Davies, Miner, confirming we have the right George.

My assumption is he may have been married and living in Staffordshire with his first wife, although there is no trace of either the death of his wife before 1875 or a marriage between 1861 and 1875.

If anyone has any suggestions or can look at the Parish Records for St. Mark or the Hanley area I would be most grateful.

You appear to have the certificate for George's marriage to Alice. This should show whether or not he was a widower. Was he?

There is a death registration on FreeBMD of an Emma DAVIES in the September qtr 1872 at Stoke on Trent reg district, vol 6b, page 120, aged 33 who could perhaps be the above Emma.
