My family had traveller, James Cherry and Priscilla who I am trying to find where they came from to no avail.
They had a son Joseph born 1805 in Little Compton (was Gloucs now Warks) and a son James, who was my 2x great grandfather, born 1807 in Marcham (was Berks now Oxon) They settled in Chipping Campden, Gloucs.

James Cherry married Sophia Jarvis and had a son Joseph born 1859 (my great grandfather), who married Mary Jane Ayres, who's father Thomas from Bloxham Oxon was a Umbrella Mender and Hawker, so they were travellers also and I believe Ayres is a Gypsy name, her mother was also Mary Jane whos maiden name was Lucas who travelled all the way from Chideock near Bridport in Dorset. These were catholics, Mary being added at Baptism.

If anyone knows or can throw some light, I would be very greatfull.

My great great grand father was Wisdom Smith (married to Priscilla) his daughter jemima was my great grandmother, At 21 she married a shepherd called Henry Quartermaine they had a large family including my Grandmother Sarah.
Sarah went on to marry Charles Dawson and she lived for most of her life in Marsh Road, Cowley Oxford and died there in her 90s

Wisdom was living with his family in Headington Quarry, Oxford. I lived in the Quarry and was married at Holy Trinity Church. Wisdom and Priscilla were also married at that church in 1860.

Many of the smiths were either married or baptised in that church.

Hope this is of interest to some one, (maybe potential relations of mine)|
