India Marriage Look Up

Could a kind person please look up my ancestor's overseas marriage (India) on the GRO Chaplains Returns? His name is Samuel WHALE or it could be spelt as WALE (approx. 1790-1825). I've asked the British Library and I've searched on FIBIS but with no luck. Thank you. :)

Have checked the returns on findmypast - 1796-1880 and the only WHALE is a Joseph in 1840-43,[Madras] no WALE entries, sorry.

I feel uneasy about recommending it but those who know more than I do about the subject say that the army BMD indexes are incomplete and it may be worth simply applying to Overseas Branch for a certificate anyway. It costs you £4.50 if they can't find one.
