Hi, I am seeking any information on George Lawson Hiddleston born 10/07/1911, mothers maiden name was Lewis, married to Elsie May rumney. I am particularly interested in his parents names and any details of siblings, grandparents etc. He was my grandfather so I have information of the younger generations

Robert Hiddleston age 3 c 1888 b. Carlisle Cumberland

Pts John Hiddleston 46 b.Scotland.
Catherine 44 b.Scotland. (John Hiddleston & Catherine Musgrave married Carlisle Jun 1885)

1881 John Hiddleston + Hannah 38....Hannah died 1882 age 39.
Child Hannah Jane in 1881 is poss. Jane in 1891.

Just possibles...may help.

This all sounds like the right family
Just one question Robert was born in April 1885, parents John & Catherine married in June 1885, this would mean Robert was born out of marriage - did this happen in those times

A lot more than you would think!

My great grandmother was born 6 months before her parents wed and I also have an instance of where the happy couple did not get married until several years after their last child was born.

So, when looking for marriages based on the birth year of the eldest child, it always pays to look later as well as earlier. ;)

Remember also Jams, Registration is NOT the actual birth date, + What a great reason to marry.

the 1891 census gives Roberts age as 3 b. Carlisle, 1901 gives 13. so all this is not necessarily Gospel. Who cares if the marriage took place when ? Quality not quantity is the stuff.
