I've lived in Massachusetts for 14 years now and have often pondered on the very definite British roots of the area. There are large cemeteries which have graves dating back to the 1700s and old wood clapboard houses going back just as far. If any of you ever find that you might have had relatives or ancestors that came to Massachusetts and might be in my area, please feel free to contact me. I'd be delighted to go grave-hunting and I have a 12mp camera so should be able to get some good photos. Most of the older families are fairly well-documented but there are probably many more. I can get photos of the locality too.
Places within a ten mile radius of Worcester, Massachusetts are easy for me to reach but if you want me to go further afield (eg Boston, Fall River etc) it will take me longer. I can also get to Rhode Island, Connecticut and southern New Hampshire.
I hope I can help someone - I would rather be in the UK hunting up my own ancestral places, but since I can't, I can content myself with helping other people.

What a kind gesture Pipsqueak. As you know i have been looking for family in the Fall River area. So if you ever get there it would would be appreciated if you could look for Martha Kennedy(nee Fleet) died 1900-1 born 1851 Manchester England. Lots of the family came over to work at the mill (cannot recall the mills name at this time but one of big ones) Found 2 matches on family trees names, dates times ect on another web site in US and e-mailed them but as of yet no replies 2 months later. Very|banghead|, as this could answer lots of questions!

Absolutely! If you can PM any details you have. For instance: do you know what religion they were? Do you know their last address? Did you ever find them on a census?
The library or historical society might be able to help - if they require personal visits, I'll see what I can do. I'm about an hour or so from Fall River but probably won't be able to get there before August due to having three children and school is finished for the summer!

Hi platty - The internet is a wonderful place - especially in America. Because so much is of public record, much information is published online for all to see - you can even find out how much your neighbours paid for their houses and when they remortgaged!
If you haven't already exhausted all possibilities online, you should do so. Once you can determine ahd share information such as where they are likely to be buried and when they died, I'll know where to look. I can help with the death part if you can give me a bit more to go on.
See PM for added info.

Yes all the information you have is correct. This is the last known address for Martha Kennedy i have from the 1900 USA Census, i tracked the other family members up to the 1930 Census. I will try the web addresses in Fall River also.
I think they were Church of England and she died in 1901 could be 5th July or 7th May (unable to confirm exact date )
Thanks once again its much appreciated.

Boy did that one just catch my eye! I was born and brought up in Melrose Massachusetts, right up till my marriage at 21. I still visit there as both my parents became permanent residents in 2004 at Wyoming Cemetery. That was an unexpected surprise! The name Preece doesn't ring any bells, tho.

Hi Pip, there have been Gutterson's in Mass. since pretty much the beginning of white settlement in the 1600s. I'm trying to make a potential connection and if proven right may need some help with some things. I'll stay in touch
