I have a copy of the service record for my great grandfather (William BROE, born Dublin 21 August 1856) which commenced on 1st January 1873 with his rate as boy second class. His official number on the record is 20433B (his CS number).
although the NA shows it as 59068 (which is the page number). The correct number was issued between 1867 and 1872 which means that he joined before I had originally thought.
According to the NA these numbers are in ADM 139/801-1018 which can only be viewed on microfiche.
Would anyone be able to check if he has any previous service, although it will not be much as I am sure he was in training on commencement of the record that I have.
Thanks
Mike
