Hi,
I have been trying to find out about my grandfather who served in the Police in Salford after the First Great War. So far no one has been able to help me. GMP sent a nice reply and gave me the archive address in salford but I haven't had a reply from them. I f you get any info I would be glad to share anything I can get hold of.

Hello. My husband served in the Salford Police some years ago, retiring in 1996.He assures me that there are in existence a number of ledgers which contain quite comprehensive details of former officers ( in many cases there are photographs... not all forces did this ) The records were kept in the Salford Police Museum at The Crescent Police Station ( now closed ) where he was unofficial curator. They were transferred to the Greater Manchester Police Museum which is in Newton Street,Manchester, M1 1ET in the late eighties. The curator who took charge of these records on transfer is still at Newton Street. Hope this is of some help. Good luck in your research .

Hi,
My Uncle, Robert Littler was a police officer in Manchester. He was as far as I know still in the force in 1956. I went to one of the websites and got a short listing for the surname of Littler, but his first name wasn't there. I just wondered how you eventually got on, did you receive the email you were waiting for?
Regards
Gilly
