I have a John Thomas Crane b 1891-in Widnes,Lancs.-parents Daniel Crane & Ellen Sunderland
who emmigrated to Australia c 1910-(his parents were deceased) I believe he came over with the Liverpool Catholic Society (or simular name)-contact was lost with relatives in England after they recieved news of his marriage shortly after May 1918-he married a girl who was German origin or a German sounding name---his aunt didn't reply as her son had just been killed in France.
We don't know what state he went to I have tried many ways to find him to no avail
If anyone can help or suggest anything would appreciate it.

Recordsearch on the National Archives of Australia website have a lot of John Thomas Crane men - but none born overseas. So it does not look like he did war service with Australian forces.

Nothing showing up in Victoria as far as marriages go. I also checked the death index (Victoria) to 1985.

Board of Trade (BT) Passenger lists held by The National Archives (TNA) at Kew are now available on a pay-per-view site, 'findmypast' - if you can locate your chap in amongst those recrods, they may at least tell you where he landed and began life in Australia, and possibly give you a lead to begin following his life there.

Many "Thanks" to all who replied to my request--We can rule out the John Crane & Ethel Staniland-a few yrs ago I got the m cert-that John was born in Wagga Wagga . The others I will look into to.
Thank you again

Western Australian indexes are online and nothing looks right there either.

Perhaps he didn't really marry this girl - just told his relatives that he had. Or there has been some mix up in the retelling of the tale. Perhaps he didn't actually marry her in Australia, but did so before he emigrated.

Hm,

I just had a quick look on findmypast migration records (index only as I do not have a subscription) and he does not seem to be there. There are however a number of Crane migrants with only a surname.

I suspect that he may have gone to Australia earlier than 1910. The Liverpool Catholic Society usually sent out children, & John Thomas would have been 19 in 1910. Also, he is not with his family in the 1901 census & they are living in 2 rooms in Manchester:
RG13/3743 folio 14 page 19, 1 Canning Place, Ancoats, Manchester, Lancashire
Daniel CRANE, head, M, 39, Labourer (coal yard), Ireland
Ellen ", wife, M, 29, England
Mary E. ", dau, 8, Widnes
Daniel ", son, 6, Widnes
Joseph ", son, 5, Widnes

Hi Wirral,
What a find-I was led to believe John Thomas was an only child & his parents had died when he was quite young-the dates match what I have on Daniel & Ellen & the place of birth-Daniel was in the police force for a while-I have his records-he was asked to resign-(because of Alcholism)preferable to be kicked out in 1893-maybe when they had the other children they couldn't cope-do you know if there is a site for the L/pool Childrens Soc.--.
Say Hello to New Brighton for us-we were brought up in St Helens & had many day trips there & many great times on the Royal Iris.
