I fear this is a hopeless request, but I should be grateful to anyone who has access to the 1851 census (or even 1861) for any information they come across about either or both of the following couples. (I had hoped the 1856 London Directory CD might help in tracing them, but no luck so far.

WILLIAM JOHN PICKEN, b SHIFNAL, Shropshire 1819, married SARAH WHITEHOUSE, believed b BLOXWICH, Staffs 1812, at St Martin in the Fields, 7th June 1841. Address for both at the time given as Chandos St.

JOHN STEPHEN CARR, age and place of birth uncertain, married EMILY CAUSER COOPER, b SHIFNAL, 1825, at St Peter, Walworth, 7th March 1846. Address for both given as Crosby Row.

29 Crosby Row, Walworth Road was the address of GEORGE BUCKNALL PICKEN, brother of WILLIAM JOHN PICKEN, and presumably employer of JOHN STEPHEN CARR, both of whom are present at that address in the 1841 census, and all three were Drapers. EMILY CAUSER CARR was the niece of the two PICKENs, but not resident there at the time of the 1841 census, although her brother and sister were. None of these were resident with GEORGE PICKEN at the time of the 1851 census, although another nephew, JOHN SMITH, was.

Many thanks, FredP.

Not a reply but a Post-script.

I have now found that JOHN STEPHENS CARR was born 3rd November 1815 and christened 24th November 1815 at St Pancras Old Church.

Still no idea what became of him, FredP.
