Looking for ANY info regarding a JAMES LEARY / O'LEARY.
Family says that he left Ireland, moved to the S.E.England, joined the police force and over the years they completely lost touch.
I would love to find out more about him and his offspring....
The facts that I have are:
His parents were JOHN and MARY LEARY nee McGILLYCUDDY. He was born 1875 on a farm called Brakara, Derrynane, Caherdaniel, Co.kerry.
I believe that his family may also have joined the Police force.
If anybody reads this and it rings any bells please get in touch.........many thanks |nopity||help|

If you know where he moved to you can google "the county" constabulary or police force. There is the Devon Cornwall constabulary - has a police museum and the London Metropolitan have a police orders search facility if that is the one you need.

If he was in the Metropolitan Police, his servcie records will be at the National Archives.

This research guide will tell you more -

Many thanks for the input....it's food for thought.
My understanding is that his children also joined the police force, so, if there are anhy O'Leary's out there and this all sounds familiar PLEASE get in touch |bowdown|

I have the details for the above James O'Leary...Met. Police Archive sent me them a few years back, I thought it may have been my great-uncle James (Jim) who according to the family joined the Met. Turned out that the James O'Leary the Met had was born in Cork city. Following this episode I went to the National Archives to research the Met. Police records but found that they had been recalled to the Met Archive for a few weeks. I've not had the opportunity to get back there.

The farm of my great grandparents John and Mary (nee McGillycuddy) was on the townland of Bracaragh, West Cove near Caherdaniel.

Anyway, if anyone is interested in having the records and certificates of the James O'Leary of Cork, please contact me through the forum and I will pass them on.
