Hello everyone

I posted a request here a few months ago and had some really useful replies.

I now have a death cert for a lady who died in this hospital in 1978. She must have been in hospital for a while, as her usual address is also given as the hospital. Unfortunately, we can't find her buriel place. We have been told she may have been interred in a common grave. Does anyone have any idea where I can get records of a common grave in the area.

Many thanks - Maggie

I think they're called Community Funerals these days;)

Try the local authority although I have in the back of my mind that if someone dies in hospital with no family member to take responsibility for the body, the hospital itself has to organise it.

The relevant department of the local authority will know.

In addition to Peter's suggestion above, which should be the first thing you try - you might also look at the probate calendar to see who was granted probate/admon of her estate.

If she had no known family and admon was granted to a solicitor, the firm may still be in practice and have records about what happened to the lady and her estate. Notices in local newspapers can sometimes be informative.
